The Collaboration with High Dailly and Alan Dalgetty
Artists:
Hugh Dailly:
I came to painting rather late with a lifelong interest in colour and shape but without any formal training other than what is on offer in the various art classes in and aro
und Holmfirth. My paintings are abstract and mostly rendered in acrylics, acrylic inks and occasionally pastels and pencil and I am interested in the layers and textures that combinations of colour and shape can generate and the infinite possibilities of accident and chance.
To sit down in front of a blank canvas is always a mystery but mostoften a joy as the act of painting leads me in unexpected directions. I hope something of that joy can be shared through the paintings exhibited here.
Alan Dalgetty:
I live in Scholes, high on the hills near Holmfirth, a typical Yorkshire town nestled in a pleasant valley. I am a landscape painter and I run weekly art courses in nearby Upperthong.
‘I am inspired by the countryside that surrounds me; the colour of it, the shape of it and the very presence of it.’
Working with mixed media enables me to explore and be more experimental with paints and inks. I enjoy exploring what the media will do and where it might lead me. Sometimes the journey leads to a more objective painting or drawing and sometimes it may lead to a more abstract representation. Always an adventure, never a chore.
“He certainly understands the colours of his beloved Yorkshire Pennines and seeks to make them come alive. His stunning landscapes are sometimes dark, sometimes vibrant but never dull!”
“His draftsman’s skill is manifest in his drawing. His artist’s eye apparent in his painting. Exciting, unpredictable, adventurous.”
“Impressions of moments wonderfully captured. You can almost see the light changing!”

Kim Onyskiw

Kim Onyskiw is a self taught artist from Skelmanthorpe, Huddersfield, working in acrylics to create bright and colourful art. The natural world is often the focus of her work, whether it’s scenic landscapes with vivid skies or the whimsical side of animals in her cartoon style pieces. Kim is also influenced by her Ukrainian heritage, with elements such as pysanky (decorated eggs) and the patterns traditionally used on them inspiring some of her paintings, along with Ukrainian scenery.

Tracey Hawley lives in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire. She is self-taught and enjoys painting on
both slate and tiles but also paints on canvas and paper. Tracey paints various subjects and
enjoys a challenge with her work.
She finds tiles wonderful to paint on. Acrylic is her medium and she creates textured, strong
coloured pieces. The smaller tile prints she creates, are printed, hand finished and varnished
in her studio.
Last year her art reached another level with her first 3-week solo exhibition in Holmfirth. Also
Exhibiting at the Penistone and Holmfirth Art Week and then successfully being accepted on
Sky Arts Landscape Artist Of The Year as a Wildcard. Her work and interview from Blackpool
were aired in the 2023 series.
Throughout her life she believes in giving back wherever she can and has helped raise funds
for various charities and wishes to continue doing so through her work. She contributes from
her sales to different local charities.
Rachel Mills is a landscape painter who creates dreamlike scenes and nocturnes using rich
and vivid colours. She uses a variety of media including oils, watercolours, pastels and
gouache. Her favourite subjects are trees, especially Silver Birch, and the beautiful moon.
Jo Hatfield says “My primary focus is the creation of acrylic paintings of English towns in
bold colours with a quirky and style.
The paintings are full of character, warmth and are painted with an eye for detail. I'm
inspired by winding streets and higgledy piggledy houses and I describe my scenes
as ‘wonky towns’. I like to work acrylic, oil and watercolour and I paint from life as well as
my own imagination. Also I am hoping to have some stylised animal paintings and fashion
drawings to have a broader range to display.”
